Boluwaji Fagbuaro is a Nigerian Artificial Intelligence researcher and a postgraduate student in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at the University of Hull. He is the creator of MAMA, an ongoing research project developing an AI-powered robotic companion designed to understand young children’s speech and support early childhood development. MAMA has shown promising results when trained on synthetic datasets and is currently being trained on global child speech datasets, with a vision to integrate African and Nigerian children’s data to ensure that AI solutions reflect diverse cultural and linguistic realities.

Beyond MAMA, Boluwaji is passionate about ethical and inclusive AI, with a focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision, child-computer interaction, and human-centered robotics. He has also led workshops in the ThinkAI: Certified AI Literacy and Advocacy Program, where he trained Africans in AI literacy and advocacy. His long-term goal is to build socially grounded AI systems that empower African communities, from education to caregiving technologies.
